Kenya to DRC Logistics: Freight Forwarding and Cross-Border Transport
How Kenyan suppliers and Congolese buyers move goods overland from Kenya to eastern DRC, with route options, documents, trade terms and practical planning advice.

Haraka Freight International provides Kenya to DRC freight by road for traders and companies supplying eastern Congo from Kenya. We transit commodities to Goma and Bukavu and operate transport services in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda along the way. This route is for goods that start at a supplier or depot inside Kenya. For containers arriving by sea, see Mombasa to DRC logistics.
| Route | Path | Destination area |
|---|---|---|
| Via Uganda directly | Kenya → Malaba/Busia → Uganda → Uganda–DRC border posts | North Kivu and Ituri |
| Via Uganda and Rwanda to Goma | Kenya → Uganda → Rwanda → Rubavu / Goma | Goma and North Kivu |
| Via Uganda and Rwanda to Bukavu | Kenya → Uganda → Rwanda → Rusizi / Bukavu | Bukavu and South Kivu |
Goma sits at the northern end of Lake Kivu, right on the Rwandan border at Rubavu. Cargo from Kenya can reach it through Rwanda, or through Uganda for parts of North Kivu. Rwanda's Rubavu Port on Lake Kivu also became operational in December 2024 (Rwanda Ministry of Infrastructure (opens in a new tab)).
Bukavu, at the southern end of Lake Kivu, is reached through Rwanda via Rusizi. The journey from Kenya is long, so careful document preparation and good communication at each border make a real difference.
The choice of entry point shapes the whole shipment:
| Entry from Uganda | Entry from Rwanda | |
|---|---|---|
| Transit countries after Kenya | Uganda only | Uganda and Rwanda |
| Best for | North Kivu towns near the Ugandan border, and Ituri | Goma (via Rubavu) and Bukavu (via Rusizi) |
| Documents | Kenya export entry, Uganda transit entry, DRC import | Kenya export entry, transit entries for Uganda and Rwanda, DRC import |
| Watch out for | Security on the final stretch inside the DRC | Health or political closures at the Rwanda–DRC crossings |
We recommend the entry point after checking the consignee's address and the latest situation at each crossing.
Paperwork for this lane starts in Kenya, where the supplier's export entry is lodged with the Kenya Revenue Authority (opens in a new tab). After that, the goods move in transit through each country on the route and are only imported in the DRC. To avoid hold-ups:
Insecurity, political tension and health emergencies have all affected cross-border trade in the Kivus. In May 2026, the Goma–Rubavu crossings were closed for about a month after an Ebola case was confirmed in Goma (The EastAfrican (opens in a new tab)). We check the situation before every dispatch and will tell you plainly if we advise waiting or rerouting.

Goods collected in Kenya cross into Uganda and then either enter the DRC directly from Uganda or travel through Rwanda to Goma or Bukavu. The route depends on the destination and current border conditions.
Goma, in North Kivu, borders Rubavu in Rwanda and is also reachable through Uganda. Bukavu, in South Kivu, borders Rusizi in southern Rwanda. The final leg and border post differ, so we plan each separately.
The DRC joined the EAC in 2022, but its import clearance is run by its own customs authority, the DGDA. Whether and how preferences apply to your goods should be checked for each shipment.
Yes. We can consolidate goods from different Kenyan suppliers into one truck for the DRC.
We check border status before dispatch and monitor it during transit. If a crossing closes, we hold the cargo safely or reroute where possible and agree any changes with you.
